El 4 de julio de 2019 el Programa ONU-REDD de Argentina organiza en Buenos Aires el Taller de Cierre del Programa Nacional ONU-REDD.

El taller tiene como objetivo presentar los avances del país en la preparación de los pilares de REDD+ hacia la reducción de emisiones provenientes de la deforestación y de la degradación forestal, la conservación y el incremento de las reservas de carbono de los bosques, y la gestión sostenible de los mismos.

On the fourth of July 2019, the UN-REDD Programme of Argentina is organizing the Closure Event of the National UN-REDD Programme in Buenos Aires.

The event aims at presenting the advances of the country in the preparation of the REDD+ pillars towards the reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, the conservation and the increase of the carbon stock in the forests, and their sustainable management.

Kimbe, West New Britain, 12 June 2019 – The Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) has commenced stakeholder consultations across all regions with the first of four stakeholder consultations held recently in Mt Hagen and Lae of Papua New Guinea (PNG). This program of outreach will be followed by similar efforts in Islands and Southern regions, the last of which will conclude on 12 July 2019.

The Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE), Ethiopia’s national strategy to achieve a middle-income status by 2025 has “Forestry: Protecting and re-establishing forests for their economic and ecosystem services, including as carbon stocks” among one of the four pillars of Ethiopia’s green economy. In order to support national and regional decision-makers and actors responsible for planning and managing forests and related resources in Ethiopia, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the UN-REDD Programme published a set of guidelines that focus on promoting sustainable management of Ethiopian forests. The publications were produced in collaboration with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MEFCC).

The ARSET (Applied Remote Sensing Training) program from NASA organizes a  satellite remote sensing training that builds the skills to integrate NASA Earth Science data into an agency’s and organization's decision-making activities. The online training will take place on Monday 15 April and on Wednesday 17 April.  ARSETTrainings are open and free, like all NASA data.

What can be the role of the law in achieving climate change goals in the agriculture sector?

As we know, agriculture, including forestry and land-use change is one of the key sectors affected by and having an impact on climate change.

On the other side, climate goals often have an important legal and institutional underpinning; therefore, these elements are key to support the implementation of the PA and related NDCs. However, legislation addressing climate change in the agriculture sectors still in its early stages.

La video conferencia contara con la presentación de Abener Jimenez de GIZ, que presentara el marco conceptual de Business Intelligence y con Daryl Medina de ICF que compartirá la experiencia de Honduras.

La video conferencia se tendrá el jueves, 28 de marzo de 2019 a las 10h00, hora de Panamá.
