Inventory of volume and biomass tree allometric models for Southeast Asia: 2018 update

The objective of this report is to provide an update of the GlobAllomeTree database with relevant tree allometric models for seven Southeast Asian countries - Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. Models are obtained from both peer-reviewed scientific literature and national technical reports and validated using methods previously described by Birigazzi et al., (2015) through the Fantallometrik tool.
This report is part of the MRV series of allometric equation database reports of the UN-REDD Programme, together with those for Cambodia (Sarin et al., 2012), Viet Nam (Inoguchi et al., 2013), the United Republic of Tanzania (Vyamana and Sola, 2013), The Pacific (Poultouchidou, Monnier and Birigazzi, 2013), North America (Birigazzi et al., 2013), and Bangladesh (Akhter, Hossain and Birigazzi, 2013), South Asia (Sandeep et al., 2014) and China (Cheng, Gamarra and Birigazzi, 2014).

REDD+ in Indonesia and FAO

Indonesia has embarked on comprehensive reforms to land-use policies, customary land rights, regulations and law enforcement to meet its pledge made in Paris in 2015 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29% from Business As Usual level by 2030 and by 41% with international support. Between 2010 and 2012, Indonesia has been working to create enabling conditions for REDD+ implementation.

However, several countries have used a subnational approach to implement their REDD+ activities as interim measures, helping countries to test approaches and tools on the field, including FREL/FREL, NFMS, Safeguards, PAM, etc. for potential “+” actions and administrative arrangements of a country.

 

This presentation outlines the challenges and options available to Zambia in terms of reconciling REDD+ at multiple scales.

However, several countries have used a subnational approach to implement their REDD+ activities as interim measures, helping countries to test approaches and tools on the field, including FREL/FREL, NFMS, Safeguards, PAM, etc. for potential “+” actions and administrative arrangements of a country.

 

This presentation was used to introduce the topic to participants and to discuss the results of a poll undertaken before the start of the knowledge exchange.

SEPAL Indonesia Event Satisfaction Survey

This document has the UN-REDD event survey results from the training workshop on the FAO SEPAL satellite image processing system.

Overall the training workshop was rated as highly successful by the overwhelming majority of the participants.  The evaluation report shows that the workshop was very effective to increase participant’s knowledge not only for the advancement of REDD+ in Indonesia but also to improve their own knowledge in area of NFMS. In addition, almost all participants (19 out of 21 or 90%) agreed that the combination of training methodologies used during this event with guided instruction and hand-on use on their own computer was very effective.

A number of topics were of particular interest to participants including the key topics for REDD+ of: Estimation of deforestation or degradation areas from satellite data; and Estimation of burned area from satellite data; in both these 30% of participants said they had moderate improvement and 70% had high improvement in their knowledge. 90% of participants said “I will use what I learned during the event” and 95% said “I will recommend colleagues or partners in the country to attend a similar event”.

Overall satisfaction was 84% very satisfied, and 16% satisfied with nobody unsatisfied.
