Representantes Guatemaltecos de instituciones ambientales claves, así como expertos legales nacionales y miembros de asociaciones forestales comunitarias empezaron las discusiones el 21 de Abril 2015.

As a follow-up to the recently concluded UN-REDD Programme targeted legislative support in Guatemala, the Legal Preparedness for REDD+ Discussion Forum ran online discussions for ‘Guatemala week’. Guatemalan nationals representing key environmental institutions, national legal experts and members of forestry community associations began the discussions on 21 April 2015.

On 29 April, Malawi officially launched the comprehensive UN-REDD Programme supported Country Needs Assessment and Targeted Support under the auspices of the Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Mining. More than 100 stakeholders from government, civil society, community-based organizations, academia and development partners attended the two-day launch event.

Just under 100 participants attended a workshop organised by the REDD National Coordination body in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on 9 March 2015. The objectives of the event were to present the findings of two reports to a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society and indigenous peoples, and to agree on a roadmap for integrating the reports' findings into work undertaken by the DRC government on its ‘Vision for 2035’.

The UN-REDD National Programme in Sri Lanka published two brochures: a summary of highlights from the first year; and a general introduction of the Programme. Both brochures were distributed at the Fourth Programme Executive Board Meeting on 17th September, 2014.  A Facebook page was also launched by the Sri Lanka Programme.  Please support the Programme by "liking" the page!

The second workshop of the South-South Knowledge Exchange Series will be held on October 28, 2013 in Oslo.

The Papua New Guinea UN-REDD Programme organized a one-day National REDD+ Awareness Raising Workshop on 11 September 2013. It was attended by around 75 stakeholders from various government sectors, NGOs and CBOs, academia, the private sector as well as representatives from JICA and AusAID. The event provided a very good opportunity to share ideas and perspectives on mitigating climate change through REDD+ and contributing at the same time to human well-being. In his welcome remarks, Mr Varigini Badira, the UN-REDD PNG Programme Director and Executive Director of the Office of Climate Change & Development briefly outlined the progress that PNG had made in getting ready for REDD+. He also stressed that people should not get carried away and dampened expectations of major early financial flows. In opening the workshop, Mr. David McLachlan-Karr, the UN Resident Coordinator, emphasized the importance of joint learning in the event and the multi-sectoral nature of REDD+.

After two years of extensive consultation and involvement from civil society actors, academia and the Government of Indonesia, the Participatory Governance Assessment for REDD+ (PGA) was launched in Jakarta on 6 May 2013.  Dr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Head of Indonesia’s REDD+ Preparedness Task Force/ the Presidential Working Unit for Supervision and Management of Development (UKP4), refers to the PGA process in Indonesia as a “most valuable contribution to the process of improving governance of forests, land and REDD+” and emphasized the importance of regular governance data updates to “track progress or regression” towards the baseline now available.

On 6 March 2013, a consultation workshop in Da Lat was held to present and validate findings from the Institutional and Context Analysis, discuss and analyze the governance issues in the context of REDD+ in Viet Nam, and based on this jointly prioritize the which the PGA will focus on and eventually provide governance data on.

In the context of the PNG National Programme, a second workshop on National Forest Inventory methodologies is being held in Lae, PNG, 11-15 February 2013. The UN-REDD Programme will support also the participation of experts from Australia and USA. Find more details in the concept note here.

A two-day training workshop was organized and delivered by the Watershed Management Division of the Bhutanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, in collaboration with FAO/UN-REDD, in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, from 28-29 November 2012. The workshop was funded by the UN-REDD Global Programme and was supported by Joel Scriven, FAO/UN-REDD Forestry Officer.

During the UN-REDD Programme side event on 5 December at the Doha Climate Change Conference (COP18), Norway signed a US$30 million financing agreement with the United Nations to support a second phase of the UN-REDD National Programme in Viet Nam. This second phase (2012-2015) will significantly scale up the work Viet Nam has been doing, with support from Norway and the UN-REDD Programme since 2009, to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+).Read the full press release in English, French and Spanish.
