The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) has reached a major milestone in contributing to the global goal of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) by holding an inception workshop and officially launching the Bangladesh National UN-REDD Programme on 3 August 2016.

El pasado 14 y 15 de junio tuvo lugar en Comayagua, Honduras el Primer Diálogo Nacional del Programa Nacional de Paisajes Productivos Sostenibles, el cual actúa como sombrilla para las acciones REDD+, con el fin de presentar ante diversos actores el enfoque del programa y recolectar insumos valiosos que permitan construir la visión de país frente a esta iniciativa.

With the mandate of ensuring the full and active engagement of national Ethnic Minorities (EMs)/Indigenous People (IP) institutions and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the programme management structures, UN-REDD Bangladesh National Programme facilitated back to back meetings with the respective representative institutions on 22 - 23 March 2016.The management structures targeted are - the Programme Executive Board (PEB) and the REDD Stakeholder Forum (RSF), a proposed national multi-stakeholder platform.

When Sri Lanka’s president and environment minister, H.E. Maithripala Sirisena, pledged to increase the island nation’s forest cover from 29.7 per cent to 32 per cent, the REDD+ national strategy being developed began to be seen as a means support this ambitious goal.

In order to define the actions to reduce deforestation and forest degradation that are key to the development of Colombia’s REDD+ Strategy, the Steering Committee of Colombia’s UN-REDD Programme held its annual meeting in Bogotá on March 9th, 2016. 

This meeting was a strategic forum, with participation of high level representatives of the national government (MinAmbiente and IDEAM), the UN-REDD Programme agencies (FAO, UNDP and UNEP), representatives of indigenous and ethnic national organizations, as well as Norway’s Ambassador in Colombia, Lars Vaagen.
