Como parte del proceso de involucramiento de la sociedad civil en la implementación del mecanismo REDD+ en Ecuador, el Ministerio de Ambiente de Ecuador, el Programa Nacional Conjunto ONU-REDD Ecuador (PNC) y la Deutsche Gesellshaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) realizaron el segundo taller “Capacitando a Capacitadores en el uso del Material Informativo para Comunidades sobre REDD+ en Ecuador”, el cual se llevó a cabo en Quito del 12 al 18 de mayo de 2013.

Delegates from Solomon Islands visited Fiji for a one-week study tour and to meet key stakeholders involved in the Fiji’s REDD+ readiness programme. The main objective of this study tour hopes to raise awareness of key stakeholders involved in REDD+ and to strengthen the capacity of Solomon Islands to develop a national approach. The UN-REDD National Joint Programme in Ecuador is looking to hire the services of a facilitator for a workshop between the technical personnel of the National Mitigation Department within the Ministry of Environment, the UN-REDD programme  and other key actors to develop an initial mapping of actors relevant to REDD+ in Ecuador and to build a methodology that facilitates the completion of the initial mapping through field activities planned by the Technical team of the Programme.

UN-REDD has just launched the new “Legal Analysis of Cross-cutting Issues for REDD+ Implementation: Lessons Learned from Mexico, Viet Nam and Zambia” publication. The publication aims to identify key legal considerations to implement national REDD+ programmes/strategies and to present lessons learned to assist countries in drafting legislative reforms related to REDD+.

In Calabar, Nigeria, 54 participants from both the federal and Cross River State level convened in January 2013 to get more insights on the relevance of the PGA in Nigeria’s federal and state level REDD+ efforts, to reach agreement on the governance domains on which the PGA will be providing governance data eventually, as well as to agree on the organizational structure and the way forward for the next couple of months.

Participants in the Expert Meeting on Tenure of Forests and Land for REDD+ all agreed that secure tenure in the sustainable management of forests under REDD+ remains to be one of the most crucial limitations to be resolved. The United Nations Awards, Forests for People, is calling for entries in the following categories: Forest Hero Awards, Short Film Awards, Photo Awards. An international jury will select 15 semi-finalists and 5 finalists for each of the 3 award categories. All winners will be provided travel support to come to Istanbul, Turkey in April 2013. Deadline for submissions is Friday 22 February.

IDS and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) have launched a new learning resource to support learning on climate change,Learning to Tackle Climate Change. The resource is designed to be used by those inside and outside DFID in order to develop their own learning journey, regardless of their country, context or level of personal expertise. Sections of this interactive PDF help the reader to reflect on different aspects of climate change and development in relation to their own work.
