With more than 650 members from 84 countries, the online discussion group on REDD+ and Forest Governance is a popular forum for informal exchanges of experiences and ideas to stimulate new approaches to address forest governance challenges. In light of the Paris Climate Agreement, the platform also informs national efforts to achieve carbon emissions reductions targets.

The platform reflects the collaborative work developed between FAO, the UN-REDD Programme and other key partners. It promotes bimonthly discussions (via email, in English, French and Spanish) focusing on relevant issues for the successful implementation of REDD+ and climate mitigation actions, such as gender equality, carbon emissions reduction titling, community forestry and traditional rights, and national forest monitoring systems (NFMS) legal arrangements. It also  provides a virtual venue to disseminate relevant announcements. You can choose to receive a daily, weekly or monthly summary of ongoing discussions.

In addition, the platform  includes a reference library, a calendar of events and a series of webinars on most relevant topic discussions (as a new feature from mid-2019).

The Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure (VGGT), gender equity, and the protection of Human Rights are key frameworks and principles for the discussions.

Current members includes legal experts, gender and indigenous people’s specialists, government officers, decision-makers, civil society leaders, academics, and representatives from forest related sectors.
