People from a range of government and non-government organisations are meeting in Nay Pyi Taw today and tomorrow to help prepare a national clarification of the Cancun safeguards, as part of their work to develop a national safeguards approach.

The clarification is an important step in developing a national safeguards approach. It explains what the principles of the Cancun safeguards mean in the national context, uses terms that are understood by a national audience, identifies priority issues (e.g. which environmental and social co-benefits of REDD+ are considered most important), and is linked to existing policies, laws and regulations (PLRs) in the country.

This workshop will gather feedback from stakeholders on a first draft safeguards clarification for Myanmar; the final clarification is expected to be ready later this year.
