Expertos de América Latina y el Caribe, de 16 paises, analizan en Panamá sobre el uso de tecnología satelital, que permita tomar acciones frente a la deforestación y degradación de los bosques, La actividad, organizada por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) para Mesoamérica y la Comisión Nacional Forestal (CONAFOR) de México, se inició el pasado martes y culmina mañana con dos mesas de discusión, detalló la FAO en un comunicado.

Tentative dates for 2nd Latin America Regional workshop on sharing experiences on National Forest Monitoring Systems (NFMS). Please inform  or Serena Fortuna if there are any clashes with other events. The workshop is by nomination / invitation only. At the request of Panama, UNDP and FAO organized a videoconference on 22 June, 2012 to cover safeguard information systems (SIS) and examples of UN-REDD work related to this - particularly the Social and Environmental Principles and Criteria (SEPC) and the Benefits and Risk Tool (BeRT). The participants included a group of government counterparts (ANAM) and UN agency staff based in Panama (UNDP, FAO). The presentations and discussion were conducted in Spanish, as a webinar with videoconference capability, allowing a live power point presentation and interactive discussion among participants.  Read more.

The first steering committee of Panama's National Programme took place 6-8 March. Panama's achievements of 2011 were presented, as well as all the different public events, meetings, and workshops that were organized during this inception period. The 2012 work plan was approved and Panama is now officially under implementation. 

 

The National Environmental Authority of Panama (ANAM) released a newsletter article on a recent UN-REDD workshop that took place in Panama. Here, various colleagues of the collaborative UN-REDD agencies met with ANAM members to exchange and analyze Panama's REDD strategy and how to strengthen national capacities in sustainable forestry management, conservation and restoration. El análisis de PNUD “Manteniendo el rumbo: El manejo de los riesgos de corrupción relativos al cambio climático” ahora está disponible en español. El análisis estudia los riesgos de corrupción de REDD+ y propone un marco para analizar y recomendar como mitigar esos riesgos durante las fases del diseño e implementación de REDD+.
